 STEG-CATO field test
Testing of CATO connected to the prototype Traffic Management System (STEG) developed by the Swedish infrastructure manager Banverket (today Trafikverket). This was the first full field test of CATO, using a CATO-equipped locomotive, where CATO communicated with STEG as regards target points for optimal crossing of trains etc.

 Railenergy
Railenergy is a research project within the EU R&D framework program. Transrail's part in the project is to manage a work package regarding energy efficient operation. This includes energy efficient driving and timetabling.
 Uppsala PRT
Project management and system engineering of a PRT test track in Uppsala. Apart from many challenges, technical and others, Transrail is responsible to ensure the project target of a safety approval by the Swedish Rail Agency.
 Capacity studies on Roslagsbanan
Investigation of the possibility to run traffic every 10 minutes. Analysis of an earlier study concerning traffic every 15 minutes.
 Operational cost of future high-speed traffic in Sweden
The Swedish Railway Administration is doing a feasibility study on high-speed (250-320 km/h) passenger train services in Sweden, in particular the corridor Stockholm – Linköping – Jönköping - Gothenburg. As a part of this study, Transrail was contracted to do a calculation of the operational costs of such traffic. The study included all cost elements of the operation, in specific estimates on the investment and maintenance of suitable types of rolling stock.
 High-speed train operation in winter climate
A study on winter problems as regards high-speed passenger train services in the Nordic countries. The study was carried out as part of the BV research project "The green train". The main purpose of the study has been to complie primarily Scandinavian knowledge and experiences.

Market analysis and classification of European rolling stock for passenger services, with focus on high-speed traffic. Transrail compiled and proposed representative technical data for different types of rolling stock, for instance with regard to traffic simulation studies.
 Trains on time
Transrail performed a preliminary study on why there has not been any substantial and long-lasting improvements of reliability within primarily the railway passenger services. A work process and tools to analyse and improve punctuality was proposed as a R&D project..
 CATO field tests
Computer Aided Train Operation, a R&D project financed by clients and Transrail, is intended to optimise train driving, thus reducing operational costs and enhancing line capacity. Analysing the full traffic situation drivers are given information on how to best drive their trains. Field tests are now done to verify and update the System Requirement Specification.

Development of a draft System Requirement Specification for CATO (Computer Aided Train Operation), a centralised system to give information to trains enabling optimal running profiles. Carried out as a R&D-project, financed by the Railway Adminstration and Transrail.

Development of models for the calculation of rail freight transport operational costs to be used in strategic studies. The work was based on the models in Transrail's TSDA system.
 Models for calculation of vehicle empty runs
SIKA and the Swedish rail, road and maritime administrations cooperate on a national model for goods transport – Samgods, to carry out transportation forecasts, to identify and to study effects of infrastructure investments. Using our TSDA system Transrail built a realistic model to calculate empty runs (railway, road, sea), which is an essential part of the traffic flows.

 Comparison of the STAN and TSDA transport models
SIKA and the Swedish rail, road and maritime administrations cooperate on a national model for goods transport - Samgods. To get new input on freight transport modelling SIKA ordered a study to compare Transrail’s tool TSDA with the INRO tool STAN that had been used for transportation forecasts, to identify and to study effects of infrastructure investments.

SIKA and the Swedish rail, road and maritime administrations cooperate on a national model for goods transport - Samgods. The modelling depends on the transport requirements of the various commodities. Transrail classified commodities following the Combined Nomenclature used by the EU.

Support to CNR (The Community of Nordic Railways) as regards initiatives for development of the "Eurotrains", a concept for a new generation of flexible modular passenger trains.

Developing a vision for a future Swedish railway freight transport system. Focus on the potential of intermodal transport in comparison to other means of transport. Included extensive technical-economical studies of different modes. Transrail tool TSDA (Transport System Design and Analysis) was used.
